Welcome Race Fans,
Club Race #3 took place on May 8, 2010 thus marking the halfway point in the 6 race series. The day started out much like the other races so far this year, a bit breezy and cooler than expected. As the morning passed by, the temperature got warmer and those morning breezes became gusty west winds blowing right down the runway. These winds proved to be quite challenging for many of the 13 racers on hand and was blamed for many cuts, particularly in the .46 class. Registration was not without its own challenges, there was one pilot who was there but not signed in, another who was signed in but not there and one who paid but didn’t sign in.
There where also two other mistakes that will not be explained, primarily because, I like my bed and wish to retain the privilege of sleeping in it over the next few nights. Thank You Tonia for taking care of the registration and matrixes. Thank You Wayne for bringing the computer and generator.
Today we welcomed Athen”John” Andronico to his first race in the .40 class. John is a fairly new member of the club and has only been flying for a few months. John was a little nervous about crashing during his first race, but with a few tips and little coaching he made it through his first race with his plane in one piece and 17 points. The .40 class also enjoyed the smooth flying style of Vahn Y. with 21 points. Oakhurst Bob and David C. taught us all a lesson on taking the scenic route with 22 and 20 points respectively. In only his 3rd race Tom Faretta was victorious over them all with a Perfect Score of 25 points for the day. Good Job guys!
The scores in the .46 class where not quite as impressive. Brett C. started the day with back-to-back perfect days under his belt and hoping for a third. However his dreams were shattered in the first round when he as well as all his competitors, myself included, CUT OUT. The .46 class enjoyed several heats of FAST, TIGHT, NO-HOLDIN-BACK Racing that ultimately resulted in more cuts than a 2 a.m. Ginsu commercial. In the end nobody really cared about winning or points, we just had FUN and enjoyed our sport. Goin’ Fast and Dicin’ it up with your buddies is what club racing is all about. O.K. if you really must know, Brett is still in 1st place with 67 points, John L. won the day with 18 Points, Doug C. and I brought up the rear with 6 point each.
Thanks to all the lap counters and pylon judges who came out to help today, this sport would not be possible without you. Special thanks to Dennis McKenry (Tonia’s uncle and non-member) for stepping in to count laps and also gave me my new hot pink hard hat.
Respectfully submitted by Bryan Freeman
