Summer is Upon Us

E-mail Print PDF

Here we are, almost the Middle of June and no 100 degree reading yet.  Our spring was mostly rain days and wind.  But good flying weather is about to come and we will appreciate the cover over the pit area.

Our membership continuies to be strong at #160.  Many of those are helping with our projects at the field.  Much thanks to Morris Fruit for disking and weed control in the area around the landing field and RV Parking.  This fall the facility will look nice for both and Jet Rally and the IMAC events.

The snack bar project is coming along, Bill Giese completed all the wiring in both new Sea Vans.  Each of the four divided sections has its own lighting and sufficent power plugs.   Gary Rosa completed the reconstruction of the main snack bar.  Pending is to complete selving, screening of all windows, and paint walls and floor.  Then we will paint the exterior of all three vans, thanks to Ron Thalman and Rod Nash for acquiring the paint.

Bob Rebensdorf with the help of Ron Weber & Homer Stevens and many others is putting together a project to build six new pit tables and two additional starting tables.  The materials were delivered to the field on Tues, 6/8/10,  on Weds the 9th a crew cut all the steel and welded the first table.  Talk about guys not letting any grass grow under their feet.

There also has been alot of flying at the field and at Millerton Lake.  Members seem to be building new craft both gas or electric thats good news for our local hobby shops, Madera Hobbies and Hobbytown.

At our last fun meeting John Langenheim and John Lockwood brought a kit, yet to be built, of a DC-3 (C-47).  135" wingspan all powered by electric motors.  We are having our June fun meeting at our field, besides bringing your projects for Show-n-tell, pack your existing flying machines so you can fly.  It does not get dark until after 8:30pm.  Come an enjoy the evening and the fellowship.

During the last part of June and most of July, Andrea and myself will be traveling to the Northwest to visit and new grandchild, then taking a Alaska Cruise.  I will see you guys at the field in late July.

Happy and Successful Flying
